Pulse-shape discrimination with PbWO4 crystal scintillators
The light output, α/β ratio, and pulse shape have been investigated at −25◦ C with PbWO4 crystal scintillators undoped, and doped by F, Eu, Mo, Gd and S. The fast 0.01 − 0.06 μs and middle 0.1 − 0.5 μs components of scintillation decay were observed for all the samples. Slow components of scintillation signal with the decay times 1− 3 μs and 13− 28 μs with the total intensity up to ≈ 50% have b...
متن کاملMeasurements of Lead Tungstate crystals behaviour under irradiation for the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter at the LHC
Lead Tungstate crystals will be used as calorimetric medium in high energy physics at CERN, in a particularly hostile radiation environment. Methods of testing their behaviour under irradiation are discussed here and are illustrated by some R&D results. Presented at 5th European Conference on Radiation and its Effects on Components and Systems, (Fontevraud, France, September 1999) For the CMS C...
متن کاملMonitoring Light Source for Cms Lead Tungstate Crystal Calorimeter at Lhc
Light monitoring will serve as an intercalibration for compact muon solenoid (CMS) lead tungstate crystals in situ at the large hadronic collider, which is crucial for maintaining crystal calorimeter’s subpercent constant term in the energy resolution. This paper presents the design of the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter monitoring light source and high-level distribution system. The correlatio...
متن کاملSpecifications for Lead Tungstate Crystals Preproduction
After 3 years of extensive R&D the Bogoroditsk Techno-Chemical Plant in Russia is ready to enter a preproduction phase where 6000 Lead Tungstate crystals will be produced for the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter during a period of about 18 months. Although this is a demonstration test for the mass production, these crystals will have to be installed in the calorimeter and have therefore to compl...
متن کاملYttrium-doped lead tungstate crystals
In this paper we present results of a study on the yttrium doping in lead tungstate crystals. The crystal growth by modified Bridgman method is described. Results of trace analysis on raw materials and crystals are presented. The segregation coefficient of yttrium ions in lead tungstate crystals was determined. The scintillation emission and longitudinal transmittance spectra, light output, dec...
